Collins hopeful of championship return

Galway captain David Collins isn't giving up hope of playing some role in this year's hurling championship. Collins hasn't hurled since dislocating his ankle while playing for Connacht in last October's inter-provincial final at Croke Park, and has yet to return to full training. But while resigned to missing Galway's championship opener against Antrim on June 28, he remains hopeful of featuring later in the campaign. "Hopefully, we'll still be involved in the All-Ireland in August - and even in the final in September. And if that proves to be the case, I might be able to make some contribution to the team," he said. "If I can get back training within a month or so, I should have a chance of getting some match time before the year is out." The Liam Mellowes clubman added: "Almost seven months is a long time to go without any hurling, but unfortunately the injury has been slow to heal. "The medical people call the injury a 'lateral inversion' of the ankle. I was able to go home on the team bus after being released from hospital but I had to take a lot of pain-killers to numb the pain."
