Doherty and McGrath named as Players of the Month

May 07, 2008
Derry footballer Fergal Doherty and Tipperary hurler Shane McGrath have been named today as the GAA All Stars Players of the Month for April. Both players have been nominated for All Stars in the past two seasons and guided their sides to National League titles last month. McGrath has been fast establishing himself as one of the top young midfielders in the country, which he proved with an outstanding display against Tipp's NFL decider with Galway. Doherty has popped up with some crucial scores for Derry throughout their successful league campaign and was a powerful stature for the Oak Leafers at centre field throughout the last month. Speaking at the awards presentation in Dublin's Westbury Hotel, GAA President Nickey Brennan praised the both players' success. "The success enjoyed by Tipperary and Derry in the National Leagues could be the springboard for even greater achievements for the teams," Brennan said. "Shane and Fergal were outstanding in demanding roles and are deserving winners."
