Meath senior hurling manager-elect Nick Fitzgerald has assembled an impressive backroom team which includes multiple Kilkenny All-Ireland winners Martin Comerford and Michael Kavanagh.

The Waterford native - who has guided the Royals to an All-Ireland MHC B final appearance against Down this Saturday - is poised to take over the reins from Martin Ennis who recently stepped down following three successful years at the helm.

Fitzgerald has recruited Comerford and Kavanagh to act as selectors while Ciaran McDonagh of Athboy will be involved as a strength and conditioning coach.

"Martin and Michael are obviously proven winners, they know how to win and obviously with Ciaran's ability in terms of strength and conditioning I think we'll have a very good mix," Fitzgerald told The Meath Chronicle.

He added that discussions to finalise his appointment are at an advanced stage with Meath County Board and concluded: "I'm up for it, I think I have something to offer, I think I have an excellent backroom team so let's see where it takes us."
