Former Derry minor star Conor Glass is set to make his AFL debut this weekend for Hawthorn.

The 19-year-old has been selected in the Hawks' 22 to face the Dockers on Saturday at Domain Stadium, having joined the club as an international rookie last summer.

Glass, who captained his native county to an Ulster minor football crown in 2015, revealed that he had heard the news of his debut from team mate and Meath native Conor Nash.

"Very happy. A bit cliché but it's unexpected," the 19-year-old told Hawks TV.

"Actually, Conor Nash got the phonecall on Wednesday morning. The family (visiting on holidays) were in the back seat and I was driving.

"The first reaction was just shock. Mum was in the back seat jumping up and down, so it couldn't have been a more perfect spot.

"It's perfect. It's in Perth as well, and I have cousins in Perth so it's going to be a perfect family holiday for them.

"I'll just let it sink in the next couple of days, and once it comes to game time, I'll play the same way as I always have and just take it as another game."
