Exactly 20 years ago today, Cavan ended 28 years of pain by capturing the Anglo Celt Cup.

Having gone an incredible 28 years since winnng their 36th Ulster SFC, the Breffni County - managed by Donegal maestro Martin McHugh - secured a magnificent 1-14 to 0-16 victory over Derry in the provincial decider at Clones, with substitute Jason O'Reilly netting the only goal of the game.

There was pure ecstasy at St Tiernach's Park as the historic venue was transformed into a sea of blue, with delighted Cavan supporters flooding onto the pitch to salute their heroes.

Maybe they'd have celebrated even harder if they'd known that two more barren decades lay ahead...

With 37 titles to their credit, Cavan remain head and shoulders above everyone else on Ulster's Roll of Honour (second-placed Monaghan have ruled the northern province just 16 times), but the 1997 breakthrough represents their only Ulster senior success in 48 years.
