Reports are circulating that some members of the Kerry senior hurling panel wanted to get rid of manager Ciaran Carey.

The former Limerick star announced that he was stepping down from the position this week, due to 'work commitments'.

However, the Kerryman has reported that the real reason for Carey's departure was down to player unrest.

The Provincial paper stated that members of the 2016 Kerry senior hurling panel met last week to discuss their dissatisfaction at Carey's management style.

The County Board must now set about finding a new manager and with counties already back training, the Kingdom will find themselves playing catch up over the coming months.

Early contenders for the position include Oulart The Ballagh manager Frank Flannery, former Dublin manager Anthony Daly and another ex-Clare star Fergie O'Loughlin.
