New Carlow manager Colm Bonnar has been pleased by the response of the players so far.
Bonnar was speaking at the Carlow GAA county committee meeting where he addressed a number of issues raised by delegates.
The Carlow Nationalist reports the Tipperary All-Ireland winner as stating that there has been a great turn out at training so far.
"We have 32 to 33 very committed and enthusiastic players," stated Bonnar. "Carlow hurling can be up and down. A small improvement can make a big difference.
"We want the players to relish playing for their county. It is a small window in their lives where they must enjoy representing their county and enjoying their hurling."
A number of delegates asked about the lack of availability of county players to their clubs and Bonnar tried to ease their concerns.
"From a club perspective, when they are with us, they will go back to their club physically and mentally stronger."
