Tyrrell sees no logic in Loughnane's criticism of Cody

Jackie Tyrrell has taken a swipe at Ger Loughnane, asking is the former Clare manager 'trying to make himself a bit relevant?', following his latest observations on Kilkenny hurling.

Writing in his Irish Daily Star column following Brian Cody's ratification as Kilkenny senior hurling manager for a 19th year, two-time All-Ireland winning Banner boss Loughnane stated that Cody had overstayed his welcome.

However, that's not a theory that the recently retired Tyrrell subscribes to...

"I'd say if Ger spent more time on his hurling, and concentrating on hurling rather than worrying about Brian Cody and Kilkenny and our physicality, he might have a few more All-Ireland medals in his back pocket as a player," he told The Irish Daily Star at yesterday's Littlewoods Ireland GAA sponsorship announcement.

"Well, actually, he might have one. It is a time of the year that is quiet on the GAA scene.

"Is Gerry trying to make himself a bit relevant?

"I don't know, it is absolutely crazy. I don't know what his motivation is behind it, but in a logical world it doesn't make any sense at all.

"Then to compare him (Cody) to Sean Boylan and Alex Ferguson - it is madness really. I have no real logic to it and I can't see any background to why he would say that."
