Gary O'Donnell says Galway's footballers will have to prove themselves all over again in 2017.

Having captained the Tribesmen to an overdue Connacht SFC success last summer, the 28-year-old reckons they now need to bounce back from their shock All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Tipperary:

"The way the season ended against Tipperary - in fairness they probably didn't get the credit they deserve - it puts a bit of perspective, motivation and hunger into next year. We'll have it all to prove again," he says in The Irish Daily Star.

"It was the only game we lost in championship all year and when it's over, it's over and lads go their separate ways. You don't really see each other for a few weeks - haven't had a huge opportunity to look through it.

"I just thought we found it very difficult to get through the gears and once the intensity of the game went up we were very flat. It is hard to put the finger on that, probably the fact that we were coming off such an encouraging victory in Connacht.

"We probably failed to perform on the day but at least we've time to put that right for next year."
