When Stephen Rochford swapped Corofin for Mayo, Kevin O'Brien was the obvious choice to take over the reins of the Galway club.

The 42-year-old was a selector with Rochford when All-Ireland Club honours came their way last year and has made a seamless transition to manager.

Today Salthill-Knocknacarra stand between Corofin and a fourth Galway SFC success in-a-row.

"It was important that we continued with the same culture at the club and the way we played," O'Brien explained to The Sunday Independent.

"So I think that was important that we had a link from Stephen's management team going into the next management team, whoever that was going to be.

"Taking over a successful team doesn't matter to me because every year you start again, and it will be same for next year."

Regarding today's Pearse Stadium showdown, O'Brien added: "Within the team and the group there has been no talk of winning four-in-a-row.

"Our view on it is that this is a new group going for our first county final, and that's been the goal all year.

"What's happened in the past is just history."
