Paul Caffrey believes Kevin McManamon might be more suited to a substitute's role for Saturday's All-Ireland final replay.
McManamon came off the bench to telling effect in the finals of 2011, 2013 and 2015 but started last Sunday week's drawn encounter with Mayo and was wholly ineffective - as indeed was most of the Dublin attack.
Former boss Caffrey reckons at least a couple of those players will do well to retain their starting shirts this weekend: "Kevin McManamon has always delivered as a sub; I think we need him on the field in the second half of the game," he told RTE. "Bernard Brogan could be in a bit of bother. Whether Jim will want to do that or not remains to be seen.
"James McCarthy being off the field for the whole of the second half was a big loss to Dublin, but they will need to improve because Mayo certainly were the better team and were unlucky not to win the last day."
