Former Laois hurler James Young has been handed a lengthy ban following his role in a mass brawl that occurred during a SHC match last weekend.

According to the Leinster Express, the Laois CCC have moved swiftly to hand out fines of €500 to the Clonaslee and Castletown clubs for their parts in the brawl.

Clonaslee goalkeeper Young has been handed a 24-game ban which sees him suspended for the senior hurling championship games.

Young lined out for the Laois senior hurlers between 2000 and 2009, during which time he was nominated for All-Star awards on two occasions in 2006 and 2007.

Castletown's Kevin Conroy was also handed a four-match suspension for his part in the incident.
