Former Cork underage star Jamie Wall believes a 'broken' system is responsible for the alarming decline in the county's underage fortunes.
Wall, who represented the Rebels in both codes at underage level before a spinal injury in 2014 left him without power in his legs, took to Twitter following Cork's Munster MHC semi-final defeat to Tipperary last night to express his frustration at the 'short termism' that he feels is causing underage mentors to place more stock in results than a long-term development plan aimed at bringing players through to senior level.
Just a thought on #CorkHurling - maybe it's not the development squads (which have been pretty successful) are the issue but what follows..

Minor, u21, Senior - the 'progression plan' or lack thereof. It's too easy, and lazy, to simply say 'development squads' - just a thought.

#GAA As someone who went through the development squads, and minor-u21-inter/junior-'almost senior' cycle individually the people involved

all are decent, hard working, honest #CorkGAA people. But is there a coherent communicative plan for bringing guys through. I don't think so

You simply move from one age to the next. And that's it. And you try your best to win. And your managers try their best to win #GAA #CorkGAA

#CorkGAA But there is no consistency of 'plan' from the day you are a 17 year old minor hurler to a 21 year old. It's the short term-ism
- Jamie Wall (@Jamwall7) June 30, 2016
#CorkGAA that is inevitable when the only people in charge are charged with 'that years result.' I'm sure you know what I'm getting at. #DOH

TweetI've taken 7 tweets to say that because I feel it's important we acknowledge that it is the system that is broken, not good #CorkGAA people.
