Thousands are expected to descend on Barna tomorrow for the funeral of former GAA president Joe McDonagh.

The Tuam native passed away on Friday night at the age of 62 following a short illness. He held the GAA presidency from 1997 to 2000 and was part of Galway's All-Ireland winning hurling team of 1980.

Mr McDonagh's remains will repose at the 'Cillín', within the Church of Mary Immaculate Queen, Barna from 3 to 7pm today.

Requiem Mass will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, at 12 noon with burial afterwards in Rahoon Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife Peig, son Eoin, daughters Muireann and Eílis and extended family.
