The recent announcement of the 12-man referee panel for this year's All-Ireland SHC has made one Kilkenny man very happy.

O'Loughlin Gaels clubman Sean Cleere makes the step up to the panel for the first time.

Cleere is the only newcomer in this year's list as the 12 men chosen will between them officiate at all of this year's top flight games.

And he admitted to the Kilkenny People that he wants to go as far as he can, just like any player would.

"As a referee you want to be doing senior inter-county games," said Cleere. "It's the same as the hurlers who want to play in the championship every summer.

"I would never have gotten there as a hurler. It's nice to be able to get that experience from a refereeing side."
