A new eVetting system has gone live on the garda website since Friday.

The system entails an application that requires any applicants to detail whether they have any previous criminal convictions. It will replace the old garda vetting application form that was filled in by hand.

Gardai expect 80 per cent of its affiliated organisations, which includes the GAA, to be online by September. Garda vetting is implemented in the GAA to promote best practice in the recruitment and selection of persons to work with children in the Association.

The launch of the system comes as the National Vetting Bureau Acts 2012 was put in place.
