Michael Darragh Macauley's failure to nail down a regular starting spot on the Dublin senior football team last year has been a 'Godsend' for Ballyboden St Enda's, says manager Andy McEntee.

The Dublin and Leinster champions are putting the finishing touches to their preparations for Saturday's All-Ireland Club SFC semi-final against Clonmel Commercials.

Speaking to The Irish Independent, McEntee said: "(That's been) an absolute Godsend to us. And I don't mean that in any disrespectful way to Michael Darragh. He's been fantastic. I mean. . . the county final - he was awesome.

"But any players who go on to win an All-Ireland and play in every minute, it's next or near impossible to come back for your club and be as hungry as people would like you to be.

"And that's no reflection on anyone. That's just human nature. And being the competitor he is, he wanted to play. And I'm sure he wouldn't mind me saying, he wasn't happy that he wasn't playing. Did that help us? Absolutely. It's huge for us."
