Westmeath manager Tom Cribbin acknowledges the fact that his side will have an uphill struggle to gain promotion from Division Three.

The Lake County lost their second league match in as many games last weekend when a hungrier Sligo side recorded a moral boosting victory for them.

It leaves Westmeath at the foot of the table and realistically, the battle is on now to avoid a third consecutive relegation in the league.

Cribbin told the Westmeath Examiner that he feels counties will drop points in the remainder of the campaign, which gives them a glimmer of hope at promotion.

"Every team is going to be taking points off each other, but we've only got ourselves to blame for the position we're in. All we can do is try and improve and get to the next stage.

"I'm bitterly disappointed. We have to pick ourselves up over the next three weeks before the Tipperary game and try and put in a better performance the next day."
