Karl McKeegan was a happy hurler after helping Cushendall reach their first All-Ireland Club SHC final.
The 37-year-old veteran came off the bench and was amongst the goalscorers as the Antrim kingpins thumped Sarsfields of Galway by 3-12 to 1-6 in Navan on Saturday.
"It's been a long time waiting on this," he enthuses in The Irish News. "That's our ninth try to get to an All-Ireland final and we've eventually got over the line.
"It's good to get the monkey off our back because it was a difficult thing to carry for so long. We even asked ourselves in the past 'are we ever going to get over the line?'
"To win that semi-final takes a big weight off our backs. That was my fifth All-Ireland semi-final. De La Salle in 2009 - our last semi-final appearance - was the hardest to take because we thought we had that game.
"After that, I personally didn't see us getting to an All-Ireland final. But being among this group of players over the past couple of years I just knew there was something about this team."
