The GAA's controversial rule which precludes full-time coaching officers from managing or coaching inter-county teams means James McCarthy will not be involved in the new Cork football management set-up.

Peadar Healy was eager to secure the services of the former Castlehaven manager, but McCarthy's job as Carbery-Beara GAA Games Development Officer has resulted in the new Cork manager having to look elsewhere for a coach.

Healy's management so far comprises selector Morgan O'Sullivan, strength and conditioning coach and 2010 All-Ireland winning defender Paudie Kissane, and high performance coach Conor McCarthy.
