McEntee denies Down interest - again

Tony McEntee has once again dismissed speculation linking him to the vacant Down football manager's job.

Despite having previously denied any interest in the role, McEntee's name continues to be strongly linked to the vacancy. But the Crossmaglen man, who is currently managing Dublin club St. Brigid's, insists his mind hasn't changed.

"I'm not interested in it. I'm certainly not in the frame at all," he said in the Irish News.

Down have been on the lookout for a new manager since Jim McCorry stepped down two months ago after just one season in charge. Former bosses James McCartan, Pete McGrath and Paddy O'Rourke have all ruled themselves out of the running.

Interviews for the position are expected to take place shortly after next Sunday's county final between four-in-a-row chasing Kilcoo and Castlewellan, who are managed by former Mourne County star John 'Shorty' Treanor.
