Offaly GAA has been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of one its brightest footballing prospects.

Adam Mangan, 19, died following a farm accident yesterday afternoon. The Kilclonfert youngster was working with a trailer when he suffered severe head injuries on land near Derryarkin, Rhode.

His body was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore for a post mortem examination. Gardaí and the Health Safety Authority are investigating the incident.

Adam represented Ireland U-18's in Rugby

Adam was a county minor in 2013 and '14 and also starred in the colours of Daingean-parish side St. Vincent's, who he helped to an historic U21FC final victory over St. Patrick's last year. He was a talented rugby player with Tullamore. His younger brother Cathal was midfield on the Offaly minor team that lost this year's Leinster quarter-final to Kildare.

Adam's club Kilclonfert, which is situated close to the Westmeath border, posted the following message on Facebook: "The darkest of clouds is cast over Kilclonfert this evening as news of the terribly tragic and untimely death of one of our fine young players, Adam Mangan has occurred. Words just don't describe the sadness that is in our club and community tonite. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ray, Janette, Shane, Mark & Cathal and all their extended family and friends."

Many other tributes have been paid to Adam on social media since news of the tragedy emerged.
