Damian Barton has indicated his unwillingness to accommodate players who aren't totally committed to the Derry cause.
And that could spell bad news for star forward Eoin Bradley, who continues to play soccer for Irish League side Glenavon. Bradley managed to juggle both codes last season under Brian McIver, but it doesn't look like new Derry manager Barton will be as accommodating.
"Everybody has to play for their place," the 1993 All-Ireland winner stressed to the Irish News.
"There will be different challenges for different people. If people are not able to give me the commitment that I require, I can't see them being part of my time."
Barton is targeting a quick return to Division 1 of the Allianz League for Derry in 2016, though he admits it won't be easy.
"If you look at Division 2, it's not a good time to be taking the team! It's an Ulster championship within itself whereas if you look at Division 1, I'm thinking: 'I wouldn't mind meeting some of those teams compared to what we're going to meet in Division 2'.
"I'll be doing my best to get to Division 1, but we know what happened the last manager who got to Division 1. So everything is relative."
