Ronan McCarthy is being tipped to succeed Brian Cuthbert as Cork football manager.

According to the Irish Independent, the outgoing selector is the new favourite to fill the vacancy after John Cleary had been considered the early front-runner. McCarthy and Cleary have been nominated for the vacancy along with Ephie Fitzgerald and Ned English.

A former corner back with the Rebels who played in their 1999 All-Ireland final defeat to Meath, McCarthy served as a selector under both Conor Counihan and Cuthbert. The Douglas man stepped back from the role last August, only to return in February.

Kieran Kingston is the early favourite to replace Jimmy Barry-Murphy as Cork hurling manager.
