Tynan a serious talent, says Power

Former All-Ireland minor winning manager David Power believes Tipperary have a real gem in Alan Tynan.

The Roscrea teen has been a sensation for the Premier County, leading its minors in both the football and hurling codes this summer, and starts again on the 40 tomorrow as Charlie McGeever's team look to upset the odds against Leinster champions Kildare in the All-Ireland MFC semi-final at Croke Park.

"He's a serious talent, no doubt about it," Power told The Irish Daily Star.

"The biggest fear for the Tipp GAA public is that there's a strong possibility we could lose him to Leinster rugby because he seems to be making this academy. When they get on these academies, there's definitely a big chance of making it. This is his third year minor football with Tipp, which is a huge achievement in itself.

"He's coming from a real hurling area in Roscrea which makes it more impressive, but then Liam England is his uncle who played football for Tipp as well. There is tradition there, I suppose.

"He's one nice young fella- very sensible, has his feet firmly on the ground, and hopefully he will play more with Tipperary whether it's football or hurling. My worry is losing him to rugby. The way the modern game of football is gone, he is their free-taker…if Alan Tynan plays well, Tipp have a massive chance from that."

As for tomorrow's big clash, Power is hopeful that Tipp can take a step closer to the repeating the feat they achieved in 2011 but sees Kerry as the team to beat for the Tom Markham Cup.

"They have a big chance, Kildare will be saying the same. I think Kerry are the firm favourites," he said.
