Unfortunate timing for Dubs' hearing

In what could well prove to be an unwelcome distraction ahead of their All-Ireland SFC semi-final against Mayo on Sunday, Dublin will tonight appeal the proposed €10,000 fine handed down to them following the brawl which marred their challenge match against Armagh last month.

Davey Byrne was left with serious facial injuries arising from the melee which erupted at the start of the game in Glasnevin. Byrne was one of two players to receive one-match bans arising from the fracas, while €10,000 fines were proposed for both Dublin and Armagh.

The Irish Examiner reported this morning that the counties will appear before the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) later today in a bid to have the monetary penalties overturned or reduced. With Dublin training tonight, manager Jim Gavin may not be in a position to attend the hearing.

Dublin are also set to appeal the red card Liam Rushe received arising from an incident involving Waterford's Maurice Shanahan in the recent All-Ireland SHC quarter-final. It's understood that the two cases would have been heard last week had Rushe been available to attend.
