Tipperary 1-10

Galway 0-6

Tipperary outscored Galway by 1-6 to 0-3 in the second half at a wind-swept O'Connor Park to join Kildare, Derry and Kerry in the All-Ireland MFC semi-finals.

Runners-up to Kerry in the Munster final, the Premier will face Leinster champions Kildare in the semi-final on August 30 where another victory would see them emulate their U21 counterparts, who reached an All-Ireland final in May. So much for Tipp being a hurling-only county!

There was a lively start to this game which saw the winners shoot the opening two points, only for Galway to level by the seventh minute thanks to a Conor Marsden brace. Marsden converted a 20-metre free to give the Connacht champions the lead for the first time, but dual star Alan Tynan replied with two superb scores - the first from a '45' - to give the winners a slender 0-4 to 0-3 lead at the break.

Galway, however, were unlucky not to be ahead after Michael Boyle rattled the crossbar in the dying moments of the half.

Tipp racked up six first half wides compared to Galway's three.

Charlie McGeever's charges upped the ante after the break, scoring four unanswered points to go five clear. The Tribesmen narrowed the gap to 0-5 to 0-8 with points from John Daly and Eric Lee, but the game was ended as a contest with six minutes remaining when the excellent Tynan scored the only goal to bring his tally to 1-5.

Daly replied with a point for Stephen Joyce's men, but it was a case of too little, too late.
