Galway haven't progressed, says Horan

James Horan hasn't seen any signs of improvement in Galway since Kevin Walsh became manager.

Walsh took over from Alan Mulholland a year ago, but his first season in charge failed to produce silverware. Incredibly, last Saturday's All-Ireland qualifier defeat by Donegal leaves the Tribesmen still searching for their first championship win at Croke Park since they beat Meath in the 2001 All-Ireland final.

"They were unable to get out of Division 2 and went down to Mayo in Connacht," Horan wrote in the Irish Daily Star.

"In the qualifiers, they took Armagh's scalp but didn't score in the last 25 minutes of that game. And they got the benefit of some refereeing decisions in the win over Derry.

"On Saturday, Galway were well placed to push on against a weakened Donegal, but couldn't. There's a lot of talk of them having more steel and aggression under Kevin Walsh, but I still haven't seen it."

The former Mayo manager added: "When the pressure comes on, I don't see enough Galway players standing up.

"There is a new generation - fellas like Damien Comer and Shane Walsh - that seem to have more about them. But many of those that have been there a while seem beaten down by too many disappointing days."
