Magee's Wicklow future in doubt

Wicklow football manager Johnny Magee

A proposal to have Johnny Magee reappointed as Wicklow football manager for a second year has been met with opposition from club delegates.

The former Dublin midfielder is seeking a second term at the Garden County helm but County Board chairman Martin Coleman's proposal didn't get support from any of the clubs.

The Dubliner has now been invited to attend the next meeting in late August in person and present a details of his plans for 2016.

Rathnew delegate Bobby Dignam told The Wicklow People: "I opposed his ratification at the last meeting until such time as the manager came before the County Board with his proposals. I have nothing personally against Johnny Magee.

"I'm only interested in Wicklow football and Wicklow. I won't elaborate any further outside the meeting. These are matters to be discussed at the meeting, not outside.

"It's a matter for the delegates. If they vote him in, he's in. If not, we will have to look for someone else. Wicklow football at the moment is at a low ebb; I am only interested in Wicklow."
