O'Connor rates Sligo highly

Kerry minor football manager Jack O'Connor

Jack O'Connor certainly won't be taking the Sligo minor footballers for granted this Bank Holiday weekend.

O'Connor's Kerry side will face the Yeats County in an All-Ireland MFC quarter-final in Tullamore on Monday and he reckons the beaten Connacht finalists are better than their provincial final replay defeat last Friday suggests:

"How I would judge it is that Mayo beat us well in a challenge match earlier on in the year and Galway hammered them in the semi-final up there," he notes in The Kerryman.

"So for Sligo to take that Galway side to a replay and be three points up on them in the closing stages the first day means they must be a good side.

"The one thing about our players is that they are good on the ball and have the ability to make good decisions when the occasion demands it. Getting back to Croke Park is the sole focus for us at the moment, nothing else."
