Dermot Carlin insists he has no regrets about deciding to retire from inter-county football in the middle of the championship.

Since his retirement last month, Tyrone have gone on a winning run which has seen them account for Limerick, Meath and Tipperary in the All-Ireland qualifiers. Another victory over Sligo at Croke Park on Saturday will secure their return to the All-Ireland quarter-finals.

"No, I don't regret anything. I made my choice. Yes, I want Tyrone to do well surely, and if they're there in the final, I'll be there supporting, definitely," the former All-Ireland winning defender said in the Strabane Weekly News.

Sligo's 26-point drubbing by Mayo in the Connacht SFC final makes the Red Hands the hottest of favourites, but Carlin isn't taking anything for granted.

"They got to the Connacht final, so they haven't become a bad side overnight. I suppose, Mayo, with the early start they got, just crushed them," he continued.

"They're not as bad as that game made out, so it will be a tough game, as the other qualifier games have been for Tyrone.

"It's just a building process at this stage, the same as any time you're in the qualifiers. You're always building for the bigger games coming, and they're coming bigger and bigger as the games step on, and Saturday is going to be another big stepping stone for Tyrone."
