While not getting carried away with last night's 2-22 to 0-20 qualifier victory over Wexford, Cork hurling boss Jimmy Barry-Murphy says it gives them something to build on moving forward.

The Rebels bossed the first-half proceedings and enjoyed a 14 point advantage at the halfway stage and, reflecting on the victory, JBM told Sky Sports: "I'm happy enough, I wouldn't be getting too carried away but I thought our first-half display was very good.

"It's a difficult place  to come and play. Everybody thought it was a potential banana skin for us which it was.

"They're a good team Wexford, with a great support behind them and if you don't play to the best of your ability then you could be beaten so I was very pleased with how the lads played, particularly in the first-half."

Will the win drive the Rebels on?

"I hope so, again I wouldn't be getting overly carried away with our performance but we have something to build on at least. We were very disappointed with the Waterford display, the players were in particular and they wanted to so something about it. At least we made a step in the right direction."
