Logistics nightmare for Cats

Logistic nighmare for Kilkenny footballers

Kilkenny footballers went above and beyond the call of duty to lift the British junior title last weekend.

Any county board will tell you that arranging a flight for a county squad and management team can be a daunting task, but generally it can be done in one flight over and back.

Kilkenny defeated Scotland in the British Junior football championship final in Edinburgh last weekend, however, travelling there was no easy task as an incredible NINE flights were needed to transport all concerned.

The squad could not all travel together, so separate flights had to be booked. The first group left Dublin airport at 6.50am and flew to Glasgow, before taking a bus to Livingston where they were based.

Another three flights were used to get the entire squad and management team over to Scotland, but that's only half the story.

On the return journey, FIVE flights were needed to get the travelling party back home and selector Peter Mulrooney admitted to the Kilkenny People that it was logistical nightmare.

"Sorting out the travelling arrangements alone as massive," said Mulrooney. "All the demands were worth it when the players won the title.

"It was a great day for Kilkenny football after so many dark ones."
