Ring and Mackey face-off in Limerick tonight

July 02, 2015

Mick Mackey has those famous words with Cork's Christy Ring during the 1957 Munster SHC semi final. Mackey was doing umpire and Ring was forced to leave the field with an injury.

Two of the most famous names in hurling will be involved when Limerick and Cork lock horns in the Munster MHC at the Gaelic Grounds this evening.

The Rebels are managed by Denis Ring, while a young man by the great name of Mikey Mackey will don the No.14 shirt for the hosts. This is the second meeting of these teams in this year's competition - Cork prevailed by ten points when they met in April, but Ring expects tonight's rematch to be closer:

"A few key things have come in their favour. They have the benefit of an extra game and changed every line of their team bar goalkeeper," the Cork boss says in The Irish Examiner. "You can learn more from defeat than victory and they were particularly impressive against Waterford in the second half, when they pulled away from them.

"They're at home as well and will see the unavailability of Shane Kingston as a big boost to them. Houlihan, Mackey and Ryan are also huge additions to them."

The winners of tonight's showdown will progress to face Tipperary in the provincial final on July 12th.
