Dermot Carlin's retirement from inter-county football means Sean Cavanagh is the only remaining link with the Tyrone squad that made history by winning the Sam Maguire Cup for the first time in 2003.

The Killyclogher St. Mary's defender has decided to bring down the curtain on a glittering career with the Red Hands. Full back on Tyrone's All-Ireland minor winning team of 2001, he graduated to the senior squad the following season and went on to win All-Ireland medals in 2003 and '08. He wasn't involved with Mickey Harte's panel when Tyrone captured their second All-Ireland title in '05.

Carlin is also the holder of four Ulster SFC medals and a National League title. He has struggled with injury in recent times, and did not see any game-time this season after undergoing an Achilles operation last December.
