Kildare minor manager Brendan Hackett believes the scores they got in the closing minutes of the first half were pivotal to their win over Dublin in the Leinster MFC semi-final.

The sides played out one of the games of the year so far as Kildare fought off a comeback by the Dubs to win over a scoreline of 3-16 to 3-13.

"The scores that we got coming up to half-time were crucial, we showed great character and we knew that we had a set of forwards but it just took us a little while to get going," Hackett told the Kildare Nationalist.

"And I just thought that those scores were crucial scores for us to lead going into half-time because games swing; they got the start, we got our purple patch and we made the best of our purple patch and all we needed to do then was to keep it tight for the first ten minutes of the second half and to not let them back in."
