Historic first for Farrelly

May 27, 2015

Referee Maggie Farrelly.

Maggie Farrelly will make GAA history on Sunday as the first woman to officiate in a men's inter-county championship match.

The Cavan referee has been appointed to take charge of the Ulster MFC quarter-final clash between Fermanagh and Antrim in Brewster Park.

The Laragh United clubperson has made a name for herself refereeing male games in the Breffni County since 2006.

Last year she was chosen to act as a sideline official in Croke Park as then All-Ireland champions Dublin began the defence of their National League Division One title against Kerry.
