"Cavan are a good side" - McManus

Conor McManus says Monaghan knew they were in for a tough time against Cavan.

Despite being billed as red-hot favourites pre-match, the Farney County came out of Breffni Park with just a point to spare on Sunday. While many expected the visitors to win by more, attacking talisman McManus wasn't the least bit surprised by the spirited display of Terry Hyland's side.

"A lot of the media and the press made it out that it was going to be one-way traffic but it was never going to be that way," the Clontibret O'Neill's clubman states in The Irish News.

"We know Cavan are a good side. They are very hard to play against. They make life difficult for you. It showed out there that they are a quality team. We can't control what the media say.

"They all talked us up to be raging hot favourites and we scraped through with a one-point win. There is nothing easy in the Ulster championship. That's the reality and we wouldn't take either of those two teams [Antrim or Fermanagh] lightly."
