Cillian O'Connor is on course to play in Mayo's Connacht SFC semi-final against Galway after returning from injury yesterday.

The All Star forward made a 15-minute appearance for his club Ballintubber as they opened their Moclair Cup defence with an emphatic 1-23 to 1-8 victory over Ballinrobe. O'Connor had been sidelined with a knee injury since March.

His second half cameo ended with him being shown a black card for dragging down Mayo team-mate Donal Vaughan six minutes from time.

On Saturday, Castlebar Mitchels defeated Ballaghaderreen 0-10 to 0-6. Managed by former Sligo star Eamonn O'Hara, Ballagh' led by 0-6 to 0-5 at the break, but failed to score in the second period as the 2013 All-Ireland club finalists took control.

Also on Saturday, former kingpins Ballina Stephenites accounted for Claremorris on a 1-11 to 0-7 scoreline. Last year's semi-finalists Garrymore trumped Charlestown 2-12 to 1-11, while Aidan O'Shea's Breaffy scrapped over Davitts by 1-10 to 1-9.

Knockmore were 0-15 to 1-9 winners over newly-promoted Ballyhaunis, while Kiltane defeated Shrule/Glencorrib 1-16 to 1-14.

In the Mayo IFC, county defender Chris Barrett also returned from injury when he lined out for Belmullet.
