The individual who allegedly headbutted Wicklow referee John Keenan has been hit with a 96-week ban.

Wicklow CCC moved quickly to take action against the perpetrator of the assault on the intercounty match official at the end of Saturday night's IFC derby clash between Baltinglass and Stratford-Grangecon in Hollywood. The Aughrim native was reportedly approached by a spectator as he made his way from the pitch to the changing rooms and was left with a bloodied nose.

The disciplinary committee of the CCC met in Monday night and chairman Mick Hagan noted that there is no place in the GAA for such shocking treatment of referees.

"We have taken swift action in the aftermath of this incident," he told The Wicklow People. "There is no place in our Association for this type of behaviour. This was dealt with quickly because there were no delays, everything was contained within the referee's report and there was no need to call witnesses."
