Padraic Joyce says Galway's 'mediocre' league form has come back to haunt them.

The Tribesmen hosts Kildare in Tuam this Sunday with their Division 2 place on the line and, speaking to NewsTalk, Joyce said: "We've been very mediocre to tell you the truth.

"When we won the first two games we were looking like we'd get promoted and then only for pulling that result out of the bag (against Roscommon) last week, we probably would've went down to Division 3.

"Just very up and down in the games against Down, Cavan and Laois - we were six points up in each game and didn't close them out.

"It's coming back to haunt us really because we're relying on different scenarios and this one to beat that one to try to get promoted.

"At the same time we're looking to get a result against Kildare to stay up."
