Limerick chairman Oliver Mann has slammed the online criticism aimed at the Treaty hurlers after their league quarter-final defeat to Dublin.

TJ Ryan's charges came in for some scathing criticism on the internet following their twelve-point defeat at Croke Park on Saturday night and Mann says such abuse is out of order:

"It is unwarranted," he points out in The Irish Examiner. "When you are in there and see the commitment these lads give, they are amateurs and do give an incredible amount of time.

"Not alone are their own lives discommoded, their family lives and the lives of those around them are also discommoded to ensure they can prepare as best they can to represent Limerick.

"Nobody gives that kind of commitment likely. Not alone are the players affected by such criticism, so too are their families and extended families. They are all hurt by this criticism.

"The players are mature and probably used of being criticised, but a certain amount of it is bound to seep through. It is their immediate family who will probably be more affected because they see the sacrifices they are making to play inter-county hurling."
