FL2: Tribe fightback punctures Rossies' promotion dream

March 29, 2015

Galway's Damien Comer. INPHO

Galway came from seven points down to beat Roscommon by 1-14 to 1-10 at Dr Hyde Park.

Diarmuid Murtagh's goal was the defining score of the first half, at the end of which the hosts led by 1-8 to 0-4.

But, with a strong wind wreaking havoc, Kevin Walsh's charges staged a determined second-half effort, with Peadar Og O Griofa slotting six points and Damien Comer finding the net in the 45th minute.

The winners must have been worried when O Griofa had a 28th-minute penalty saved by Darren O'Malley, but at least they got something from that exchange as Comer thumped the resulting '45' into the wind and over the bar.

That score made it 0-4 to 0-7 but Roscommon pulled away when Murtagh flicked Cathal Shine's punt to the net before Enda Smith contributed the final score of the first half.

Comer took a pass from Gareth Bradshaw to drill a low shot to the net ten minutes after the restart and Galway were level a minute later thanks to an O Griofa free from the wing.

The Tribesmen kicked on in the remaining 25 minutes to boost their survival prospects and severely dent the Rossies' chances of promotion with one round of matches remaining.
