New York countdown to the Cavan Series

March 27, 2015

Cavan take on New York in Gaelic Park.

A busy two weeks ahead for New York GAA as we count down towards the visit of Cavan to Gaelic Park

GAA President Aogán Ó Fearghail will be in town twice over the next fortnight, a hue boost to the County Board and all of its members as we prepare for the start of our local season and of course the visit of Galway for the opening round of the Connacht Senior Football Championship on Sunday May 3.

This weekend, New York GAA's 81st banquet will honor  Cavan's Rosie O'Reilly-Broderick, a driving force of the New York Ladies Gaelic Football Association and a primary reason for the visit of the GAA President.

Meanwhile, manager Ian Galvin and his panel are preparing for the high profile visit of Cavan for The Mick Higgins Memorial Series

The two-game series on Thursday April 9 and Sunday April 12 will be decided on an aggregate score and the visit of this high calibre Ulster outfit will offer a much needed test to the New York footballers ahead of their big game against Galway.

"We have prepared hard as a team over the last three months for these games and this will give us invaluable preparation for our Connacht Championship game against Galway," said Galvin.

"We have endured another rough winter here in New York and we are glad to finally be able to play football again with no snow mounds on the pitch."

Tickets are priced at $20 for adults and $10 for seniors and students. Kids enter free.

There will also be appearances over the course of the series by the footballers from the Cavan NY club, the Manhattan Gaels, the Cavan ladies and also several youth teams.

It promises to be a memorable couple of days for GAA fans in New York.

On Easter Sunday, April 5, OPENING DAY at Gaelic Park will be highlighted by Navillus Senior Football champions Kerry who will launch their 2015 campaign against Cavan - the club which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this season.

There will also be the launch of the highly competitive Crana Electric Junior A Football Championship when Westmeath take on Longford at 1pm.
