Paul Galvin won't receive any special treatment from his brother-in-law Eamonn Fitzmaurice according to team-mate Stephen O'Brien.

The 2009 Footballer of the Year came out of retirement on Tuesday night when togging out for a practice game against the Kerry U-21s on Tuesday and, speaking to The Irish Independent, O'Brien said: "Eamonn has certainly proved that it doesn't matter who people are.

"If they have no pedigree and they're playing well they'll play, and if someone isn't playing well they'll be dropped, and it'll be no different for Paul I think.

"I'd say he wouldn't want it any differently either, that whatever playing time he gets, he'll have earned."

O'Brien - who lined out at right half-forward in last year's Sam Maguire decider - revealed the news of Galvin's return came as a surprise to the players and he jokingly added: "Marc O Se was looking for an autograph off him and a selfie, there was a bit of banter alright.

"We got a text on the way down last night that Paul was going to be at training, that he was making a comeback.

"It was as much a surprise to us as anybody else."
