Jim McCorry was delighted with Down's second half performance against Cavan.

A 0-6 to 0-3 half-time lead didn't look like it would be enough for the Mournemen after they had played with the elements in the first half at Kingspan Breffni Park, but they upped the ante in the second period and sealed a surprise 1-9 to 0-8 victory thanks to Donal O'Hare's late goal.

"There was a lot of disappointment in the changing-room about our first half performance, including the fact we missed a few scoring chances late on," the Down manager said.

"But that made us all the more determined to improve matters when we went back out on the field. And, as things turned out, we played much better in the second half.

"Donal O'Hare's goal was very important, but what pleased me most about our performance was the fact that so many players made very important contributions to the win. The likes of Kevin McKernan and Luke Howard were very prominent throughout, and it was also very encouraging to see Kieran Gordon (goalkeeper) and Conall McGovern (wing back) do well in their first game for Down."
