Derry and Ballinderry star Aaron Devlin could have his controversial ban cut to eight weeks today.

In a landmark case, Devlin was suspended for 48 weeks for derogatory comments he made on Twitter about the match officials following Ballinderry's last-gasp Derry SFC final loss to Slaughtneil in October. His team-mates Gareth McKinless and Michael Conlan received similar bans after a row erupted at the end of the final.

Devlin's ban was halved by Derry's Central Hearings Committee a fortnight ago and he is now hopeful it will be further reduced to the minimum under the misconduct rule, which is eight weeks, after appearing before the Ulster Council Hearings Committee last night.

McKinless and Conlan, who had their 48-week suspensions upheld by the Derry Central Hearings Committee, also had their appeals heard last night. The outcome of the appeals should be known later today.
