New Carlow hurling advisor John Allen admitted that he was impressed by their display against NUIG last Sunday.
Following a disastrous start to the game, the Barrowsiders battled back to earn a draw and they possibly should have held on for the win as the students needed a late point to level matters.
"I was impressed," Allen told the Carlow Nationalist. "The most important thing right now is application and work rate. If you have application and work-rate, you have a chance of winning.
"If you don't have those, you have little chance. Kilkenny have been the bench mark over the last ten years."
