Contract extension for Ard Stiurthoir

Paraic Duffy's term as Ard Stiurthoir of the GAA is to be extended.

The Monaghan man's current seven year fixed-term contract expires on January 31, 2015 but he has accepted the offer of an extension from the Management Committee.

The term of the new contract will be finalised at a later date.

In other news, the GAA has announced the appointment of Tomás Meehan as its first Chief Information Officer.

An All-Ireland senior championship medal winner with both Galway and Caltra, Meehan is a graduate of Dublin City University and Trinity College and  previously worked for PwC and Allied Irish Banks.

He will have responsibility for the development, implementation and operation of the GAA's information technology strategy and will oversee all information systems infrastructure within the Association.

The Galway man will take up his new post in the New Year.
