Casement Park residents claimed the planning permission fiasco could have been avoided - if the GAA had listened to them in the first place.

In the High Court yesterday, Mr Justice Horner quashed planning permission for the 38.000-seat redevelopment of the west Belfast grounds and Carmel McCavana of the Owenvarragh and Mooreland Residents Association told The Belfast Telegraph: "We're delighted with the judge's verdict: but we are sorry it had to come to this.

"All this could have been avoided if only the GAA had been prepared to listen to us.

"The points Mr Justice Horner made today were all points we had already made to the GAA. We talked to the GAA, but they were not listening to us.

"They must have thought they could just steamroller their way through.

"We only wanted to protect our homes and the quality of life in our area.

"It's unbelievable what we had to take on an order to have our voice heard."
